Overcast but clear September
Humid afternoon
Warm
NYU students
Chattering
Birds of a feather
Gather in Union
Square
new York city
Brash
Ignorant innocent
Before
Life has had it's way
Chewed and spit
Them
Reshaped
And
Challenged
The persistence
Of their longitude,
Brutalized their
Surviving latitudes;
Yet they
Shine with light,
The brightness
Of sparrows
And little brown birds
That sing in the morning
Before they go
Scavenging the broken
Sidewalk,
Foraging for crumbs .
